Chromite

Chromite is an iron chromium oxide: FeCr2O4. It is an oxide mineral belonging to the spinel group. Magnesium can substitute for iron in variable amounts as it forms a solid solution with magnesiochromite (MgCr2O4); substitution of aluminium occurs leading to hercynite (FeAl2O4).It is by far the most industrially important mineral for the production of metallic chromium, used as an alloying ingredient in stainless and tool steels.

 END USE OF CHROMITE

Used for metallurgical(50%), refractories (35%), chemicals(15%). The metallurgical uses include’s great variety of alloys with iron, nickel and cobalt, low chromite steel, low chrome iron, medium chrome steels, stainless irons, stainless steels, chrome nickel ferro alloys, electrical resistance alloys, chrome cobalt alloys, automobiles, refractory furnace linings, chemical compounds are used for dyeing, tanning, bleaching, pigments and oxidizing agents, chromic acids.
